Gaming Rules

We ask that out-of-character comments be kept to a minimum in order to keep the story moving smoothly and to decrease the load on our bandwidth.

Please don’t control characters that do not belong to you; this includes posting the actions or reactions of any character not your own. (e.g. "Joy threw the pointy shoe at Joel's head." would be fine, whereas "Joy threw the pointy shoe at Joel, smirking as it hit his head." would not. The first gives Joel time to decide whether it actually hits his head; the second assumes that it does.) We request that all players respect one another by playing fairly.

Although it is both fun and acceptable to roleplay with your characters through other mediums (e.g. through online journals or instant messaging), we only consider what happens on the board to be game canon. Anything else is for your enjoyment only.

In order to create a roleplaying environment suitable for all ages, we ask that everyone keep game content within a PG-13 range. Also, keep in mind that our boards are public, so please don’t post anything there that you wouldn’t want to chance your parent or superior seeing.

We ask that certain subjects be never used in our game. These include self-mutilation (“cutting”), paedophilia, eating disorders, sexual abuse, or in-game rape. There are also certain subjects that must be approved by the mods before being used in the game in any form. Those include mental illness, suicide, depression, non-sexual abuse, or history of rape.

Characters should be played with the same traits and abilities with which they are approved. If, for some reason, you wish to make a major change to your character’s profile, please contact us.

In order to maintain a level of historical accuracy in the game, we ask that you keep in mind the attitudes and beliefs that people living in a small southern town during the 1950s would have had, as well as what technology was available at the time. If you have a question about whether or not something is suitable, please email us and ask.

If you have any concerns about something that occurred in gameplay, please feel free to contact the administration to let us know what’s happening.

Character Rules

As a general rule, we delete or write out characters that have been inactive for over a month if we have not been notified of a player’s hiatus. If you come back to find your character was deleted for that reason, you are certainly welcome to reapply.

Please remember that in character actions have in game consequences. Sometimes there will be dangerous situations in the game that may have dire consequences if you shove your character into the fray. If your character does get involved with something that would get them seriously injured or killed, we will try to warn you in time so that we can work out an alternate solution. However, please be aware that forcing your way into a storyline may not end well.

If you're applying for a character that needs in-game relatives, we will place your character with a family during the application process. If you wish, you may request where your character is placed, and we shall do our best to accommodate you.

Please ask the GMs before giving your character a pet or animal companion. Unless you have permission, we request that you do not control any animals.

Applying for Multiple Characters

When you first join the game, you may start out with only one character.

We ask that players wait at least three weeks after getting a character before applying for a new one. If the game is flooded with new characters, it can become confusing, both for the player and for others in the game, and it becomes difficult to work new characters into storylines.

If your first character is female, we request that the second character you apply for be male. This is to help prevent the game from being overrun with female characters, as they tend to be the more popular gender.

Likewise, as teenagers and young adults are undoubtedly the most popular age group, players are at first allowed only one character from that age group in order to keep the game from growing overbalanced.
